Edmund Rice Society

(ERS) co-ordinates an outreach programme each term. Members from all grades are invited to join in the society making the ERS student body diverse and exciting. The ERS has carried out special outreach projects with the intention of promoting social justice and advocacy in our school. Some of the projects that we have carried out this year include a Lenten & Easter initiative which included an Easter Hamper in Term 1, a winter Soup & Blanket Drive in Term 2 as well as our annual Christmas Drive which will take place in Term 3. The ERS as part of their community service involvement have visited various non-profit organisations in and around the Springs area. They have helped support the following organisations this year: Vita Nova; CHANCE Children’s Home and the St. Vincent de Paul Society at our local parish, Our Lady of Mercy, Springs Catholic Church. The ERS also partakes in the annual Edmund Rice Society Rally in Assissi, Bloemfontein, as part of an immersion experience and interaction with other Christian Brother (CB) Schools. Being part of the Edmund Rice Network has also brought with it wonderful opportunities to meet other teachers and pupils in our CB affiliated schools.

Our Pastoral Care Programme provides counselling and spiritual support for our learners and staff as part of our school-family experience of caring for one another.

The Inter-Catholic Bible Quiz takes place in May every year where our learners rigorously study a section of the Holy Bible and compete against other schools in our Catholic network.

Our Sacramental preparation for Confirmation is also part of our R.E programme paired with additional Catechesis formation carried out at parish level after school hours.
